Bridport, Dorset: The Sound of Blue Note; Jazz Concert, Bridport Arts Centre Theatre

The Sound of Blue Note - JAZZ CAFÉ

"The iconic sound and image of the Blue Note record label in the 50s and 60s pioneered “hard bop”, mixing jazz with soul, blues and gospel. The Sound of Blue Note band faithfully recreates this vibrant music as it would have been heard ‘back in the day’, including tunes by Art Blakey, Horace Silver and Lee Morgan, delivered in a swinging and soulful way guaranteed to have you bobbing your head and tapping your feet ".

Great evening of music. The authentic sound (Dexter Gordon, Hank Mobley and more) with a new dimension. Outstanding ensemble playing and exciting solos. I was rather hoping they might play Art Blakey's "Moanin" as an encore. I played it in the car on the way to Bridport the day after the concert (never tire of the great Bobby Timmons on soul piano, Lee Morgan on trumpet).

"The Sound of Blue Note" musicians are also outstanding jazz messengers.
